Cabin weekend
We spent last weekend cabin-camping. Favorite memories are the way the kids explored the cabin when we first arrived - played on the bunk beds, loved the porch, thought it was so neat to eat the big wooden table...eating spaghetti and hamburgers and big breakfasts...hiking around the cabin area and teaching the kids to recognize trail blazes...
the boys "fishing" at the lake...
watching the deer...rocking on the back porch with the kids...
and watching the sun go down with Greg. It seems to have taken the boys' brotherhood and enjoyment of each other to a new level.
They are growing up. While we were at the cabin, Nathan said, "Mama, please don't treat me like a baby" as I was asking him to get dressed for bed. Then, he wanted to go across the monkey bars at our neighbor's house for the first time today. And this morning Mark told me, "Mama, I really want to be a soldier - a pretend soldier, and I'm not going to kill anybody, but I really want to be a soldier!" That wish makes me tear up - maybe he'll grow out of that one?!

Pics
The boys did some gluing one morning this week - maybe it was Monday? I can't quite remember. They had a lot of fun with it, though! There is something about the power of holding a bottle of glue in your two little hands and squeezing it for all it's worth.
Nathan went for a spiral design, while Mark was more free-spirited and made the biggest puddle of glue I've seen yet on a piece of construction paper.
Mark enjoyed washing up.
Nathan entertained himself with peeling the dried glue from his fingers.

They went camping...
Nathan, Greg and PopPop went camping last weekend.
They paddled into a campsite at Cheraw State Park and spent a night under the stars. I loved seeing Nathan anticipate this event.
I loved hearing the stories he told when he came home. He is growing up.
How is he able to handle his own paddle like that? His second love is gardening with his Nanny.
Mother's Day weekend was special because I spent it with my Mama. She treated me to Chinese food Friday night, a massage on Saturday afternoon, and a delicious pasta dish of my choice Saturday night. She made my favorite dessert, strawberry shortcake, too. Best of all, she cared for me in so many ways that only my mother could know I needed.
